Appreciation

This weekend I was blessed with an opportunity to see another part of my beautiful homeland, Kpatawee Falls in Bong County.

I know words cannot do it justice but I'd love to share a story shared with me by a work colleague here in Liberia that captures my sentiments well.

One day, a man who wanted to kill himself headed to the forest equipped with rope to hang himself. As he stood in preparation in the middle of the woods, another man walks upon him.

The other man naked asks the man with the rope what he was planning to do. As the naked man contemplated the situation he says: "Well, since you're going to kill yourself. Let me take your clothes and head to town."

The man with the rope thought long and hard about the proposition and decided: "No, I changed my mind".

Moral of the story being that no matter how bad off you may have it, someone else just might have it worse.  So stood those two men in the forest one with clothes and the other without.

I've recently felt overwhelmed with the favor and grace of the Universe and my trip to Kpatawee Falls was an opportunity to be reminded of all the beauty that exists in the world. I've had low times sure. Recently,  I've even had moments when I thought my heart would jump out of my chest with anxiety.  Perhaps, it's that I haven't written as much as I would like. Here's to more moments that take my breath away in my gloriously beautiful homeland of Liberia!

I love spotting these huge old cotton trees in Liberia. A beautiful reminder of the generations that have passed and the living history still here for us to appreciate in the nature around us.
